Home, Life & You: Because Life Doesn't Happen in Separate Boxes

4 minute read

Home, Life & You LIVE started with a very simple idea: our homes have a much bigger impact on our lives than we sometimes realise.

Penny Moyses, founder of the annual Home, Life & You LIVE show tells us more about how the show started and what you can expect to find at the Excel centre this October.

When I launched the Clean & Tidy Home Show in 2022, the vision was never simply about cleaning and tidying. It was about the impact our environment can have on how we feel, how we function and ultimately how we live.

Over the years, the conversations within our community have only reinforced that belief. We’ve talked about overwhelm. Time. Confidence. Family life. Wellbeing. Money. Habits. Identity. Asking for help. We’ve explored how making a change to our environment can create a ripple effect into other areas of our lives and, equally, how changes in our lives can completely alter what we need from our homes.

Home, Life & You LIVE was the natural evolution of that thinking: an opportunity to zoom out and explore the bigger picture and the connection between our home, our life and ourselves.

And there is still very much a place for both shows. The Clean & Tidy Home Show focuses more deeply on our homes, how we organise them, care for them and create spaces that support the way we want to live. Home, Life & You takes that same belief and widens the lens, recognising that our homes don't exist in isolation from everything else going on in our lives.

Everything is connected.

I believe our home is our launchpad to success.

And by success, I don't mean having an immaculate house, a perfectly organised wardrobe or everything neatly labelled.

Success looks different for all of us.

It might mean getting everyone out of the door in the morning without losing your keys. It might be finally sorting the room you've been avoiding for three years. It could be creating somewhere you actually want to come home to, finding a better way to manage the mental load, making time for yourself or simply feeling a little more in control.

Our environment affects how we feel, and how we feel affects how we show up in the rest of our lives.

That's why Home, Life & You isn't really a traditional home show or a wellbeing show. It's about the space where all of those things meet.

No perfect homes required!

One thing that's incredibly important to me is that the show never leaves somebody feeling that their home, or their life, isn't good enough.

There is already plenty of pressure telling us what our homes should look like, what we should own, how productive we should be and how well we should be managing everything.

We don't need more of that.

Instead, I want Home, Life & You to offer a bit of a pick and mix.

We bring together different voices, experiences, opinions, ideas and practical solutions. You won't agree with everything you hear, and you certainly don't need to try everything you discover. The point is to explore what resonates with you, take away what might make a difference and leave the rest.

You might discover one idea that makes your mornings easier. You might hear somebody on stage offer a completely different perspective on something you've been struggling with. You might find a product that genuinely solves a problem, or have a conversation with someone who can offer the support or expertise you need.

There is rarely one right way to do things. Sometimes we need a new idea, sometimes a practical solution, sometimes a different perspective, and sometimes we need to ask for help.

That's one of the reasons our relationship with APDO has been so important since the very beginning. We want to signpost our community to people who can genuinely make a difference, to the people with expertise, ideas and practical solutions to the challenges they might be facing. The show creates an amazing opportunity for those connections to happen in person, but just as importantly, we want our community to know where they can turn for trusted support long after the doors close. The APDO member's directory will help you find someone you can trust and rely on.

A show about real life

This year's Home, Life & You LIVE takes place at Excel London on 17–18 October, and we've built the programme around three simple areas: Home, Life and You.

Across the weekend, we'll be talking about everything from organising, cleaning and home improvement to confidence, money, relationships, personal style, AI, wellbeing and finding more effective ways to navigate everyday life.

There will be practical sessions and demonstrations, honest conversations and plenty of opportunities to ask questions and meet people who can help.

And, yes, there will be inspiration, but it should be useful.

The sort you can actually take home and do something with.

Come exactly as you are

Perhaps the thing I'm most proud of about the community we've created over the past few years is the feeling at the event.

From day one, our message has been:

You are invited. You are welcome. You are one of us.

You don't need to have an organised home to come to a home show. You don't need to be feeling particularly confident to attend a session about confidence. And you certainly don't need to have your life together before you start thinking about how you might want to change it.

Life happens. Our circumstances change. Our homes change. We change.

Sometimes we need to reset, rethink and start again, and there should be no shame in that.

So whether you're looking for practical ways to make your home work better, wondering whether a professional organiser could help you, searching for a little inspiration or simply fancy spending a day surrounded by people having interesting and honest conversations about home and life, we'd love to welcome you.
