When dealing with clutter there are some people who are good at controlling it and there are some people who aren't so. If you're looking for tips on how to minimalise clutter in your home then this article might just help you.
Live within your means
This is not a new idea, but it's a wonderful place to start if you're aiming for a simpler, less cluttered life. Organizing or
decluttering your house is the first thing that comes to mind when you're ready to clean your space. If you go by the rule of "live within your means" simply meaning: let the size of your house dictate how much stuff you have, not the other way around. So if your wardrobe is bursting at the seams, instead of thinking of a buying a bigger wardrobe why don't you try cutting down your clothes to fit the space you have?
Have a place for everything
You could hire a
professional declutterer or a
house decluttering service although it may be a little expensive. But you can do it yourself. If you have a place for everything, then everything is in its proper place. If you have lots of things on countertops, tables or the floor and you're struggling to find places for them, maybe you need more places. This is where clear plastic shoe boxes or maybe a sideboard or cabinet with lots of drawers could come in handy.
Stop clutter before it enters your home
Even if you are conscientious about what you buy, it is easy for clutter to sneak its way into your home in the form of freebies and junk mail. That's why setting up a landing strip by your front door is a brilliant idea, clutter has to come into your house somewhere, but you can stop it right at the source.
Go paper-free
Scanning all the paperwork that you've been hanging onto may seem like a daunting task, but once you are done it will be easier to organise and search through meaning you will have that much less to manage.
Realize that life is about experiences, not things
We are constantly being bombarded with advertisements that try to convince us that a happy life is all about having the latest stuff: an outdoor kitchen, a new car, new clothes th latest gadget. But studies have shown over and over that it is not the things in our lives that make us happy, but our experiences that we treasure most. So the next time you are tempted to buy more stuff, ask yourself first if the money wouldn't be better spent on a nice night out or on a vacation.
