No Shade, Brighter Spaces is run by Katie - a home organiser and declutterer helping families in Bristol, and the surrounding areas.
20 years’ experience in marketing strategy made me an expert in consumer psychology and behavioural science. Now I use that in depth knowledge of the psychology of buying and owning products to help people let them go. I’ve trained with a hoarding charity, and I have as much experience in applying empathy as I do in deploying science to get the job done.
I understand how hard it can be to maintain a home environment - I'm a mum with three young children and aging parents I know exactly how isolating it feels on those days when you're struggling to get your stuff together to get out with the children, but you don't want to invite anyone over because the house is in disarray. I totally get how overwhelming it is to be frantically looking for something while children are also demanding your attention. I've spent afternoons tidying when I wanted to be doing something nice with my children (or, god forbid, for myself!).
No Shade, Brighter Spaces exists to help busy families declutter and organise their way out of overwhelm. I apply Montessori principles to help families foster independent children, but not everything has to be strictly practical. The environments I set up also work beautifully with more creative educational philosophies like Waldorf Steiner. I've found that children can learn to take a real sense of pride in their environment if it's set up to support their organisational style. As they thrive in their independence it lightens the mental load for their parents.

This was the first time I’ve used a professional decluttering service, and I couldn't be happier. As a single parent running a household and a business, I simply haven’t had the time or the mental energy to tackle what felt like a monumental task. Katie was brilliant. She was organised, methodical, and truly helped me get the most out of our session. We tackled my spare room, which had become a 'dumping ground' for items I’d held onto for years—mostly emotional things like baby clothes and memories, or items I’d spent a lot of money on and felt guilty donating. Katie challenged me in a very sensitive way. We started with a clear plan and goal, and I was thrilled by how much we achieved. She even created a Vinted list (sending me the listing details later), along with organised boxes for charity and the clothes bank. Even though I still have a bit more to do, I feel so much 'lighter.' A lovely touch was Katie checking in afterward to keep me accountable for my follow-up actions. Thank you, Katie! I would highly recommend her services to anyone.
I'm currently renovating my home in Bristol; Katie provided me with a consultation service ahead of my kitchen and utility room redesign project. I needed help visualising the rooms beyond what was already in place. Katie's input was invaluable in focussing my mind on the flow and helped me make clearer decisions about layout, storage and what I need, and don't need, based on how I intend to use the space. All this enabled me to provide a better brief to my kitchen designer and gave me more confidence that the design was being led by me rather than fed to me.
