The reason for starting the business stems from a need to do something I love while being able to help and support people. This got triggered a long time ago when I lost my dad, I began realising life is too short to not follow your dreams. That dream led me to working with orangutans in Borneo! That came to an end and I have to say since then I’ve felt a little lost. Working in the charity sector has been amazing and what has given me the most joy is supporting people who need it the most.
In 2021 I lost my mum, very suddenly and my world came crashing down, both me and my sister were in a state of shock and had to sort through a lifetime of belongings and memories from our childhood home, without the support of our friends and family I’m not sure we would have managed.
Then in 2022 the news came that my brother in law had cancer, which quickly became terminal cancer and he was given months to live. Again I felt the universe telling me to stop putting things off and to make a change. So in 2023 The Calm Curator was created! It’s terrifying to start something new, but I knew I could make it a success, I know I can help people, like my sister who had become overwhelmed by things, stuff, exhausted and tired. With a little bit of guidance and support anyone can start to tackle the build up of clutter, to take back their space and free up their mind from the physical and mental chaos that a cluttered home can bring.
I’m not here to judge you or make you get rid of everything in your home, I’m here to guide you and help you find solutions that work for your home and lifestyle.
Life happens and we have to roll with the ups and downs, but we don’t have to tackle it alone.
Specialisms
Hoarding behaviour
I have completed the Introduction to Hoarding Behaviour course with APDO and have been working with clients with hoarding tendencies. This process is all about building a trusted working relationship with the person i am supporting and showing compassion and understanding. Taking time to understand what has lead to the situation occurring and how we might be able to gently and slowly work to get to a better outcome.
Life Coaching
Coaching forms a core part of the service that I offer. Building a strong trusting working relationship is key and getting to the root problem and offering advice and support to help get you to a wonderful outcome.
ADHD
I have worked within the neurodiverse sector for over 3 years and I am neurodiverse myself so have lived experience of navigating some of the challenges that can come with staying organised.
I was initially very good at making excuses why everything needed to stay. Emily helpfully set a small goal to start the process and suggested we only made decisions based on expiry dates. Before I knew it we had a whole bin bag of rubbish and a very clean, organised cupboard. I now feel invigorated to tackle the next area of my kitchen. I would highly recommend Emily to anyone. Running my own business means I have very little spare time and the time I do get I like to spend with friends and family. On the surface my home is clean and tidy but open the cupboard doors and it’s a whole different story. My kitchen was driving me crazy – I could never find anything, mealtimes became a nightmare and I resorted to ready-made meals rather than cooking healthy meals from scratch. Not only was I stressed out because of the lack of organisation but my health was starting to suffer through not eating properly. Emily came in and really got to know me and my lifestyle and how I needed my kitchen to function. It took a while to get the systems and processes in place but wow what a difference this has made. I now look forward to preparing meals and opening kitchen doors is no longer fills me with dread. I actually save time and feel much more at peace. Couldn’t recommend The Calm Curator and Emily enough Tina - Ferndown
I have recently moved into my new family home and our stuff has just taken over. with two young children, who do multiple activities and have an abundance of stuff, I really needed some help getting things in some kind of order. We started with the Kitchen as it had become the dumping ground. It was worrying to start with, creating more mess, but the end result was life changing. Thank you to "The Calm Curator" for making mornings run smoothly again. Sarah- Southbourne
