As, as professional organiser I find great joy in tidying and organising, and it has always been a big part of my life. In particular, when setting up a home for my family; organising my two sons through school and university, juggling social and life events and arranging holidays. I have a background in helping people and before following my passion as a professional organiser, I worked as a nurse for the NHS and then as a learning support assistant in education.
People often seek my help at a time of transition in their lives – new parents whose home feels taken over by children’s toys, couples coming together or uncoupling, people moving into new homes -.and the process of reclaiming your home, invites a sense of calm and control. In letting go of clutter, you are letting go of anxiety.
Specialisms
Move Management
I have gained considerable experience in supporting clients declutter their homes prior to packing and advising them on recycling or donating unwanted items as well as helping unpack and organize their new homes. I have worked with relocation experts helping clients who have been relocated abroad by their companies, private individuals moving house as well as working with The Senior Move Partnership to assist clients moving into retirement apartments. I worked alone and as part of a team to unpack and organise large family homes giving support to the clients on layout and storage and helped clients who lived abroad to prepare their flat for a sale.
ADHD
Since completing the six-week training course, ADHD for Organisers, with Sarah Bickers, I have worked with a number of clients with ADHD and learned and put into practice a number of techniques to support them in decluttering and organizing their homes.
When my house was marketed for sale my estate agent mentioned Andrea as someone to contact. I was downsizing and had accumulated over 40 years of stuff, much of which was stored in my loft and never used. From the very first visit, I was hugely impressed with the calm, friendly, supportive and organised manner in which Andrea helped me to declutter. She has a variety of containers that are filled with items for recycling or donating to charity and then loaded into her car and taken away. Over a 9-month period Andrea visited over 20 times and took a full carload each visit. We worked through the house room by room including outside sheds and several visits spent in the loft. Clothes, books, pots, pans, glassware, furnishings, furniture, toys, wood, metal, electricals, paper, cardboard, and lots more stuff. I was delighted my unwanted items would benefit others and not go to landfill. Andrea transformed a daunting task into an enjoyable decluttering project. I was able to move into my new home clutter free which would have been impossible without Andrea’s help and support. I am enormously grateful to Andrea and thoroughly recommend Tidyaway for any project, big or small. Thank you.
After living in the same house for 35 years, obviously, it was going to be a huge wrench to move, and help would be needed with decluttering and clearing out, both for selling and subsequently moving. TidyAway was listed on the Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers (APDO) website and with Andrea's help and total physical involvement, this evolution, which at times was very emotional, was significantly eased. Andrea managed to make me focus on which items were necessary and useful/ loved or of sentimental value/ forgotten or unused for some time/ or just plain broken and useless. These were then sorted into charity donations/ recycling opportunities/ or the appropriate bins. She also had good advice on appropriate and useful recycling destinations eg. books. It became a natural and cleansing process for which I am very grateful.
Andrea was sent to me by angels. I had a very big move looming ahead of me from Cambridge to Devon, and having lost my partner I had the added task of doing some clearing. My health is not good and fatigue easily sets in so I was a bit daunted by it all. Then I discovered APDO and Andrea. Over a period of about a year Andrea came over several times and helped me to sort what I was keeping, giving to charity or binning and we got through a huge amount of stuff. I ended up with a pared-down, very organised and tidy flat. When it came to the actual move, it was so much easier knowing I wasn’t taking a lot of “junk“ with me and Andrea helped me supervise the packing and loading of lorries. I don’t know what I would have done without her, thank you Andrea and I hope you find many more people who will benefit from your expert help.
