Connection, Community and the Power of Collaboration

Last weekend, APDO once again proudly took part in the Home, Life & You event (formerly known as the Clean & Tidy Home Show).

APDO President Sian Pelleschi shares why we’ve been a partner of the show since its very beginning four years ago and why each year it continues to remind us why we do what we do.

When the show first launched, it broke new ground by bringing together two industries that naturally complement each other – decluttering and organising alongside cleaning and home care. It was the first event of its kind in the UK to do so and we knew we wanted to be involved. Supporting this platform meant shining a light on the value of organisation in everyday life and showcasing how our profession can make a genuine difference to wellbeing, productivity and happiness at home.

Since then, the event has evolved into Home, Life & You – a celebration not just of cleaner, tidier homes, but of the wider sense of balance and wellbeing that comes from feeling in control of your space. It’s a shift that aligns beautifully with APDO’s own ethos: supporting everyone to create spaces and systems that work for them, whatever their circumstances.

Why We Support the Show

Our continued partnership with the show is about much more than just being present. It’s about connection, collaboration and awareness.

For APDO, the event provides invaluable brand visibility and an opportunity to share our message with new audiences. But more importantly, it’s a chance to support our members – whether that’s through speaking opportunities, business collaborations or networking with others in related industries. Every year we see the ripple effect of these moments: a member’s talk that inspires a visitor to take the next step in their own home, or a business connection that grows into a meaningful partnership.

As a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation, we’re proud to represent a community that leads with generosity. And this show allows us to demonstrate that in person – to embody our long-standing ethos of colleagues, not competitors.

Showcasing What APDO Stands For

If there’s one thing that always shines through at events like this, it’s the warmth and authenticity of our community. Visitors to the APDO stand are often surprised to learn that the Association, founded in 2004, is still primarily run by volunteers. But what truly impresses them is the passion behind it – the dedication of people who care deeply about supporting others to live and work better, and about strengthening the professional organising industry as a whole.

As President, I’m constantly reminded what a privilege it is to lead such a supportive, values-driven community. Everyone involved – from the Board to our volunteers to our members – shares a genuine desire to help others. That spirit was more evident than ever at this year’s event.

Our Stand: A Space to Connect

This year’s APDO stand was designed to feel just like home – warm, inviting and full of personality. We recreated a living space where visitors could sit or stand comfortably, chat and take part in interactive activities.

Two challenges quickly became firm favourites: our LEGO Sorting Challenge and our Bookshelf Sorting Challenge. The LEGO challenge really got people fired up – it brought out the competitive streak in visitors of all ages – while the bookshelf challenge offered a calmer, more reflective moment for those who preferred a gentler pace. Both were fun, hands-on ways to get people thinking about the principles of decluttering and organising, and both gave participants the chance to win a label maker!

The mix of energy and engagement these activities created sparked conversations with people from all walks of life. Alongside this, we offered visitors access to discounted training, which drew great interest from those curious about joining or developing within the profession.

But what really stood out this year was the quality of the conversations. We met a record number of attendees at the stand, received more newsletter sign-ups than ever before and even welcomed new members to APDO – all testaments to the growing recognition of our profession and the appetite for genuine connection in this space.

The Effort Behind the Magic

What many people don’t see is the year of planning, countless meetings and the hours upon hours of preparation that go into making the weekend such a success. From designing the stand and coordinating volunteers to promoting the event and packing those all-important banners, it’s a true labour of love.

And then – in what feels like the blink of an eye – it’s over. But we always leave on a high: inspired, energised and proud. Proud of the team effort, the community spirit and the meaningful impact we’re making, one conversation at a time.

Looking Ahead

So, will APDO be back next year? Absolutely.

Because Home, Life & You is more than just an event. It’s one of the few spaces that truly values connection and community – the very things that sit at the heart of what we do. It’s a celebration of collaboration, learning and shared purpose, and we’re honoured to continue being part of it.

Until next year, we’ll carry the warmth, inspiration and friendships we made into everything we do. After all, that’s what APDO is all about: supporting one another, connecting with others and helping people everywhere find clarity and calm in their spaces – and in their lives.

You can find your very own APDO professional in our member's directory here. We look forward to connecting with you soon.

Sian Pelleschi founded Sorted! in 2016. She covers the North West of England in person and the world virtually. She takes a firm but fair approach to help those who are struggling with their space – both physically and mentally – and believes that decluttering is not just about throwing ‘stuff’ away or creating beautiful surroundings, but about providing practical, long-lived processes that can support a person going forward. Sian is the current President of APDO and her goal is to inspire, motivate and declutter as many lives and businesses as possible.
